KEVIN BAILEY
In 2012, following the murder of Trayvon Martin, Kevin Bailey was inspired to take action. Since, he’s been committed to building power that results in racial equity and eradicating social injustices.
After working with youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system, Kevin realized he could have more of an impact by focusing on fixing broken systems that plague the underprivileged communities he cares so much about. He began organizing as an External Organizer with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) where he developed skills in leadership development and campaign strategy. While at SEIU, he had the opportunity to join the campaign organizing child care providers. These efforts led to the creation of Child Care Providers United (CCPU), and his efforts helped providers win collective bargaining rights along with competitive wages and medical benefits. Following CCPU, he went on to lead the Gig Workers Rising campaign with Working Partnerships USA, a campaign that organized app-based workers in their fight for fair pay, adequate safety measures, and job security. Today, Kevin works as the Lead Organizer for The Utility Reform Network, where he advocates for California’s most vulnerable communities to have access to affordable clean energy and quality phone service.
Kevin has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Portland and Master’s in Public Policy from Mills College in Oakland, where he resides. Kevin founded Activist Soul with a dream of building engaged communities and inspiring today’s youth to be tomorrow's changemakers.
